It amazes me that the most sophisticated technologies come with detailed user manuals, tailored to each specific make and model. And yet, for us humans, there is no manual to operate our lives.

Religious and spiritual teachings offer some guidance, and many people feel enlightened by following those paths. Although that guidance can help, it can never replace our own journey of self discovery.

For many of us, there comes a critical point in our lives – often triggered by mid-life or a major event such as disease or the death of someone close to us – when we begin to ask ourselves two big questions:

“What am I here for and what truly matters in my life?”

These questions mark a shift away from what the people and world around us have always told us, and towards what we believe in our hearts is true for ourselves.

It is through this precious shift that we can consciously create the life and career that we want; a life and career that truly matters. It is a time to reflect and to create our own personal “life manual”. To live according to our life manual is what will leave our unique signature of our journey on this earth.

Having gone through this shift myself, I have discovered that my personal beliefs are:

  • Everyone has both strengths and weaknesses.
  • Everyone experiences suffering.
  • Everyone has the right and obligation to shine their gifts and talents, and above all, to be happy. The world needs the best and happiest YOU!
  • We should all strive to replace our innate instinct to compete with one another, with a practice of offering help to others in finding their best and happiest selves.
